After researching two other companies, both said 3 to 4 weeks for an estimate and 6 to 8 weeks for installation. Apex gave me the option to do a virtual estimate the same day. The virtual estimate was ballpark $300. Then Apex came out the next day to do the actual estimate which was $295. The install was completed the following week. I was concerned the replacement glass would not match the orginal double payne Andersen glass, but you can't even tell! Looks perfect!!! Great price, speedy service and quality work is hard to find these days! Highly recommend! Kent Gilbert Medina, OH

Jay did an exceptional job and solved 2 thorny issues with an Andersen slider as both the screen and the door both had issues and made it nearly impossible to use this expensive Andersen door. He fixed both issues quickly. He's a great guy, excellent communication skills, great personality and fantastic problem solving skills. Super impressed - thanks Jay and Apex Window Werks!

We contacted the company after my wife got the number from one of their service vehicles. We had numerous fogged panes that needed attention. Once contacted, the estimate was provide quickly. Most of the glass was tempered and needed to be ordered special. This added about one week to the install date. We had 14 casement glass panes repaired in one visit. The windows were aluminum clad wood windows. I was concerned about having these 25 year old windows being dismantled to replace the panes. During the estimate Ben assured me this would not be an issue. The gentlemen that performed the work, were both polite and extremely efficient. The work was completed on all windows in just one visit. We did have a slight issue with one window. After contacting Apex the fix was handled quickly and with no issues. If you have fogged glass don't wait. The comfort level in the home was noticeable immediately. I would highly recommend Apex if you're in need of this kind of work. Having Apex replace the fogged glass saved me thousands of dollars over purchasing new windows. Thanks again for a job well done.

THE PROBLEM

What Commercial Glass Damage Actually Costs a Business

Glass damage in a commercial setting carries a different set of consequences than a cracked pane at home. A visible crack or shattered panel at street level is a security gap the moment it happens, and depending on the building code jurisdiction, it can also be an active code violation if the replacement glass doesn't meet the safety glazing standard required for that specific location.

Beyond the immediate risk, a damaged storefront is the first impression every customer forms before they've even walked through the door, and a business operating with plywood over a broken pane sends a very different signal than one with clean, intact glass.

The financial exposure compounds the longer a repair gets delayed. A cracked insulated unit loses its sealed gas fill and starts bleeding conditioned air immediately, driving up heating and cooling costs on a building that's often paying commercial utility rates far higher than a typical home.

In office parks and mixed-use developments around Eastlake and Sagamore Hills, we regularly see property managers discover a cracked pane during a routine walkthrough that's been quietly driving up the building's energy bill for weeks before anyone flagged it as a repair priority.

OUR APPROACH

Code-Compliant Glass, Fabricated to Match Your Building

Commercial glass repair starts with a different set of questions than a residential job does. Building codes set specific requirements for where safety glazing is mandatory in a commercial structure – near doors, at low heights, in large storefront panels facing pedestrian traffic – and the International Building Code's glazing requirements, adopted with local amendments across Ohio, dictate when tempered or laminated glass is required rather than optional. We assess these requirements as part of every commercial estimate, since replacing damaged glass with a non-compliant unit can mean a failed inspection down the line, not just a repeat repair.

Once the code requirements are clear, we measure the affected opening precisely and fabricate replacement glass matched to the original in size, thickness, tint, and coating. Storefront and curtain wall systems frequently use larger, heavier panels than residential glass, which changes the installation approach – proper handling equipment, careful coordination with the aluminum framing system, and attention to structural glazing details that a smaller residential job wouldn't require. This precision work is the same standard behind our insulated glass replacement service scaled up for commercial applications, and it coordinates directly with our commercial entrances and glass storefront installation service when a project extends beyond glass replacement into a full entrance system upgrade.

Business disruption is a real factor we plan around, not an afterthought. Retail and office tenants generally can't close for a multi-day repair, so we schedule commercial glass work to minimize operational impact, using temporary securing measures where needed to keep a space safe and weatherproof while custom glass is being fabricated, and coordinating installation timing around a business's actual operating hours wherever that's feasible.

Cracked or Shattered Storefront Glass

A cracked or broken storefront panel is a security gap and a liability the moment it happens, since compromised glass at street level invites weather intrusion and unauthorized entry. We prioritize these calls and typically secure the opening the same day.

We measure the panel dimensions and fabricate replacement glass matching the surrounding units in tint, thickness, and coating, coordinating installation around business hours where possible. A mismatched panel stands out immediately on a storefront built for visual consistency.

Foggy or Failed Insulated Glass Units

Commercial insulated glass units fail the same way residential ones do – a broken perimeter seal lets humid air in, and the unit fogs permanently between the panes, the same mechanism behind our foggy window repair work on residential glass. On a building with dozens of similarly aged units, one failure is often an early signal that others are close behind.

We replace the failed sealed unit while keeping the existing aluminum or steel framing system intact, restoring both clarity and the building's original energy performance without the cost of a full storefront system replacement.

Glass That No Longer Meets Current Code

Older commercial buildings sometimes carry glazing installed before current safety code took effect, particularly in hazardous locations like glass adjacent to doors or within 18 inches of a walking surface that would now require safety-rated glass under current standards.

We identify non-compliant glazing during any commercial assessment and can upgrade it to code-compliant tempered or laminated glass, which matters most during a lease renewal, sale, or any point where a building inspection becomes likely.

Damaged Glass in Multi-Tenant or Office Buildings

A cracked window in an occupied office suite or a shared building common area needs to be addressed without disrupting tenants who aren't part of the problem, which requires careful scheduling and often after-hours or weekend work coordination.

We work directly with property managers to schedule repairs around tenant occupancy, minimizing noise and access disruption in shared spaces while still moving quickly on glass that represents a security or weather exposure risk.

Scratched or Damaged Decorative and Tinted Glass

Commercial storefronts increasingly use tinted, frosted, or specialty-coated glass for branding and privacy purposes, and this glass can't simply be replaced with clear standard stock without creating a visible mismatch across the facade.

We source and fabricate replacement glass matched to the original tint, coating, and finish, preserving the building's intended architectural appearance rather than patching a specialty panel with an off-the-shelf substitute.

Storm or Impact-Damaged Large-Format Panels

Large commercial glass panels take on more risk during severe weather simply due to their surface area, and wind-driven debris or hail can damage panels that a smaller residential window would have survived undamaged.

We handle large-format glass replacement with the specialized equipment and technique these heavier panels require, securing the opening immediately after storm damage and fabricating a permanent replacement built to the same performance specification as the original installation.
THE FACTORS

Which Commercial Properties Call Us Most Often

Retail storefronts with large street-facing glass panels represent the highest-frequency call type, simply due to the sheer glass surface area exposed to foot traffic, vehicle proximity, and occasional vandalism that an office building set back from the street doesn't face to the same degree. Properties along busy commercial corridors see meaningfully more impact-related damage calls than those in quieter business parks, independent of the building's age or construction quality.

Age plays a role too, but differently than in residential buildings – a commercial structure built before current energy code standards took effect is more likely to still carry lower-performance glazing that a building owner may want to upgrade proactively rather than wait for a failure, particularly when utility costs are a significant line item in the operating budget.

Repair, Upgrade, or Full Storefront Replacement?

The right scope of work depends on what's actually driving the need for glass work in the first place. A single cracked or fogged panel in an otherwise sound aluminum or steel framing system is almost always a glass-only repair, replacing just the damaged component while the surrounding system stays untouched and functional.

A full storefront or entrance system replacement becomes the better path when the framing itself is failing – corroded aluminum, a system that no longer meets current energy code, or a business genuinely wanting a design refresh beyond what glass alone can deliver. Our commercial entrances and glass storefront installation team handles that larger scope, and we make the repair-versus-replace call honestly during the assessment rather than defaulting toward the bigger project.

01
Our Commercial Glass Repair Process

Assessment and Code Review

Every commercial job starts with identifying the exact glass specification needed – size, thickness, tint, coating, and whether the location requires safety-rated tempered or laminated glass under current building code. We check hazardous location requirements specifically, since a panel near a door or low to a walking surface may need a different glass type than the original installation carried.

This step also includes assessing the surrounding framing system's condition, since a glass-only repair only makes sense when the aluminum or steel framing itself remains structurally sound and code-compliant.
02
Our Commercial Glass Repair Process

Securing the Opening

For damaged or missing glass, securing the opening is the immediate priority, using properly fitted temporary materials that maintain security and weather protection without looking like an abandoned storefront to passing customers. This step happens the same day for most emergency commercial glass calls, coordinating directly with our residential emergency response process scaled up for commercial urgency.

We coordinate this temporary measure with the business owner or property manager directly, balancing security needs against maintaining as normal an appearance as possible while permanent glass is being fabricated.
03
Our Commercial Glass Repair Process

Precise Measurement and Fabrication

Commercial glass panels are measured with the same precision as residential glass, but at a larger scale where an error carries a higher material cost and a longer reorder delay. We confirm dimensions, thickness, and glazing method against the existing framing system before placing any fabrication order.

Fabrication timelines for commercial glass vary by panel size and glass type, with large-format or specialty coated panels sometimes taking longer than standard sizes – we communicate realistic timelines upfront so property managers can plan around them.
04
Our Commercial Glass Repair Process

Installation

Installing commercial glass, particularly large-format panels, requires specialized handling equipment and technique beyond what a residential window replacement calls for. We work carefully around the existing aluminum or steel framing system to avoid damaging components that don't need replacement.

Scheduling installation around business operating hours is standard practice wherever feasible, minimizing disruption to retail traffic or office operations during the actual glass-setting work.
05
Our Commercial Glass Repair Process

Final Inspection and Code Confirmation

The last step confirms the installed glass meets the applicable code requirement for its specific location, that the seal is complete and weather-tight, and that the surrounding framing is undamaged from the installation process. We provide documentation of the glass specification installed, which property managers often need for their own records or future inspections.

We also walk through warranty coverage on the new glass, kept distinct from any separate warranty on the surrounding framing system.

Guardian SunGuard Glass

Guardian SunGuard's coated glass products are widely used in commercial storefront and curtain wall applications for their solar control and energy performance characteristics, and matching the exact SunGuard variant matters when replacing a single damaged panel within a larger installation.

We fabricate replacement panels to Guardian's specific coating and performance specifications, avoiding a generic substitute that would create a visible or performance mismatch against the surrounding intact glass.

Pella Commercial Systems

Pella's commercial and light-commercial window and storefront products use glazing specifications that differ from their residential lines, and confirming which product family is involved affects both the fabrication order and the code compliance review.

We identify the specific Pella commercial product line before ordering replacement glass, ensuring the new unit matches both the original specification and any applicable current code requirement for that building type.

Andersen Commercial Systems

Andersen's commercial division products appear in light-commercial and multi-family buildings throughout the region, with glazing details distinct enough from their residential lines that treating them interchangeably risks a fit or performance mismatch.

We confirm the exact Andersen commercial specification before fabrication, since commercial glazing systems often carry different structural and energy performance requirements than a comparable residential product.

JELD-WEN Commercial Systems

JELD-WEN's commercial window and door lines serve office and multi-tenant construction across a range of building types and eras, with glazing methods that have evolved meaningfully across their commercial product history.

We verify which generation of JELD-WEN commercial glazing a given building uses before fabricating a replacement, ensuring the new glass performs to at least the standard the original installation was designed around.

Milgard Commercial Systems

Milgard's commercial and light-commercial vinyl and fiberglass systems are increasingly common in newer mixed-use and retail construction, and their insulated glass units use spacer systems specific to their commercial product lines.

We match replacement glass to Milgard's specific commercial spacer and glazing details, avoiding a generic insulated unit that fits the opening but not the manufacturer's engineered performance specification.

Integrity Commercial Systems

Integrity's fiberglass-composite systems see use in light-commercial applications where their material properties offer advantages over standard aluminum framing in certain climate and durability scenarios.

We match repair techniques to Integrity's fiberglass-composite construction specifically, since this material behaves differently under thermal stress and moisture exposure than standard aluminum commercial framing.

Do All Commercial Storefronts Require Safety Glazing?

Not universally, but building code requires it in specific hazardous locations that apply to most storefronts in practice – glass near doors, glass within 24 inches of a door's vertical edge, and glass panels within 18 inches of a walking surface almost always trigger the safety glazing requirement.

In practice, most storefront systems end up glazed entirely in tempered glass simply because so much of a typical storefront falls into one of these hazardous location categories.

Difference Between Tempered and Laminated Glass for Commercial Use

Tempered glass is heat-strengthened to break into small, relatively blunt granules rather than sharp shards, satisfying most basic commercial safety glazing requirements at a lower cost than laminated alternatives.

Laminated glass, built with a bonding interlayer between panes, holds together even when cracked, which building codes specifically require for overhead glazing like skylights and sloped applications, and which many businesses choose for security-focused ground-floor applications regardless of whether code strictly mandates it.

DOES GLASS REPLACEMENT AFFECT INSURANCE OR INSPECTIONS?

Replacing damaged glass with code-compliant material is generally a straightforward, positive factor for both insurance and inspection purposes, while leaving non-compliant or damaged glazing in place can create liability exposure if an incident occurs at a hazardous location that should have been safety-glazed.

We provide documentation of the glass specification installed, which property managers can keep for their own compliance records or provide to an insurer or inspector as needed.

Recent Commercial Glass Repair Projects

Commercial glass damage rarely looks the same twice – a cracked storefront panel in one location, a full aluminum-framed glazing failure in another. See how we handled a commercial window glass replacement in Cleveland, where multiple broken insulated panes in a building's front façade were matched and replaced without disturbing the existing metal framing.

For businesses considering a full entrance upgrade rather than a glass-only repair, our commercial entrances and storefront installation page covers that broader scope of work.
BY WINDOW TYPE

Commercial Glass Repair Across Every System Type

Commercial glazing systems vary considerably in how the glass is held and supported, which changes both the repair approach and the code requirements that apply. Storefront systems typically use aluminum framing with glazing stops similar in principle to residential windows, but at a larger scale requiring specialized handling. Curtain wall systems, common on larger office buildings, use structural glazing methods where the glass itself may carry more of the load-bearing responsibility, requiring different technique entirely.

Entry door glazing faces the strictest code scrutiny of any commercial glass application, since doors see constant impact and pedestrian proximity, virtually guaranteeing a safety glazing requirement regardless of the specific building or jurisdiction. Skylights and any glazing sloped more than 15 degrees from vertical carry their own distinct code requirement for laminated safety glazing, addressing the specific risk of falling glass fragments rather than impact resistance alone.

Storefront and Entry Systems

Aluminum-framed glazing systems requiring safety-rated glass in nearly all locations due to door proximity and pedestrian-level exposure.

Curtain Wall and Office Glazing

Structural glazing systems on larger commercial buildings, often involving greater glass surface area and different load-bearing considerations than storefront systems.

Skylights and Sloped Glazing

Overhead and sloped commercial glazing requiring laminated safety glass by code, addressing the risk of falling glass fragments specifically.

What Our Commercial Glass Service Covers

A cracked or fogged commercial window is rarely a reason to replace an entire storefront or entrance system.
We repair and replace commercial glass throughout the Cleveland–Akron area, fabricating code-compliant units matched to the original specification while keeping surrounding framing intact wherever it remains sound.
Technicians serving this region review applicable building code requirements as part of every commercial assessment, checking hazardous location rules and safety glazing standards before recommending any repair. That review happens on-site, not from a phone description, since the same crack can carry different code implications depending on exactly where it sits on a storefront – property managers get glass that passes inspection, not just glass that fills the opening.

Our regular service area covers dozens of communities including Eastlake · Sagamore Hills · Rocky River · Cleveland Heights · Hudson, and the business districts around each. Whether a property has a single cracked storefront panel or a full building's worth of aging curtain wall glazing, our crews bring the same code-first, precision-fabrication approach to every commercial appointment, regardless of the job's size or the building's age.

Don't see your property's location listed? We serve commercial clients throughout the full Cleveland–Akron region – call 440-496-7415 and we'll confirm coverage along with an honest scope assessment before any work is scheduled. Most commercial estimates are completed on-site within a single visit, and there's no obligation to proceed just because we came out to assess the damage.

FAQ

HOW QUICKLY CAN A BROKEN COMMERCIAL STOREFRONT WINDOW BE SECURED?

In most cases, the same day the damage is reported. Securing the opening with properly fitted temporary materials is the immediate priority, restoring security and weather protection while permanent replacement glass is being measured and fabricated. Commercial calls involving an open, unsecured storefront receive priority scheduling given the security exposure involved.

IS TEMPERED GLASS REQUIRED FOR ALL COMMERCIAL STOREFRONT WINDOWS?

Not by a blanket rule, but building code requires safety glazing in specific hazardous locations that cover most of a typical storefront in practice, including glass near doors and glass within 18 inches of a walking surface. In practical terms, the large majority of storefront glass ends up tempered simply because so much of a storefront's glazing falls into one of these code-defined categories.

CAN A SINGLE CRACKED COMMERCIAL PANEL BE REPLACED WITHOUT REPLACING THE WHOLE STOREFRONT SYSTEM?

Yes, in the large majority of cases, provided the surrounding aluminum or steel framing system remains structurally sound and code-compliant. We fabricate a replacement panel matched to the original size, tint, and coating, and install it into the existing framing without disturbing the rest of the system.

DOES REPLACING OLD COMMERCIAL GLASS ACTUALLY IMPROVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY?

Often significantly, particularly for buildings still carrying original single-pane or early-generation insulated glass. Modern glass with Low-E coatings and proper gas fills can meaningfully reduce heating and cooling costs on a commercial structure, where utility expenses are frequently a substantial line item in the operating budget.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS SERVICE AND COMMERCIAL ENTRANCE AND STOREFRONT INSTALLATION?

Commercial glass repair and replacement addresses damaged, fogged, or non-compliant glass within an existing framing system that remains structurally sound. Our commercial entrances and glass storefront installation service covers the broader scope of a full entrance or storefront system replacement, which becomes the right choice when the framing itself, not just the glass, needs to be replaced or upgraded.
