Repairing foggy glass, rotted wood, stuck sashes and failed hardware
Cleveland does not have one typical window. Our window repair work in Cleveland, OH ranges from original wood sash
in older houses to later vinyl and clad replacements, failed insulated glass, casement hardware and commercial glazing
– sometimes all within a few blocks of one another.
Bring a damaged sash to our Oakwood workshop and we will have it repaired in about 2 hours.
If the window cannot be moved, we secure the opening the same day you call.
A failed sealed unit is a good example. The glass has its own working life, separate from the sash, frame, trim and hardware around it. When the perimeter seal fails and moisture gets between the panes, a new insulated glass unit can often be fabricated to the dimensions of the existing opening. The frame, interior trim and exterior finish do not need to be disturbed simply because the glass has reached the end of its service life.
Wood deterioration works the same way, only the diagnosis is physical rather than optical. A sill corner may be soft while the jambs remain hard. A sash rail may need rebuilding while the surrounding frame is still square and stable. Apex’s sill, sash and frame repair work is based on finding where the damage stops. Full replacement belongs in the conversation when the failure is genuinely broader than a repairable component.
Cleveland currently has 29 locally designated historic districts and more than 300 locally designated landmark buildings, homes and sites. On a designated property, changing an exterior window can therefore involve more than choosing a replacement model. The Cleveland Landmarks Commission reviews changes affecting designated properties under established preservation standards. Homeowners should confirm whether those requirements apply before altering a historic exterior.
Even outside a formal historic district, an older wood window can be worth evaluating before removal. Original dimensions, trim lines and sash proportions are already integrated into the house, and localized failures do not necessarily justify losing the complete assembly. Our wood window repair work focuses on keeping that existing construction when the timber still gives us a sound base to work from.
